We believe in giving the youth an opportunity to make a difference in their community.

The Yon Avni, Youth Leadership Program, focuses on enriching and empowering young adults between the ages of 15 - 24. This program aims to develop the next generation of responsible, confident, empowered, and well-rounded leaders.

Scholarships

The Yon Avni youth leadership scholarship program aims to invest in the future (Avni) of the youth in Haiti. Every year we award scholarships to assist youth in rural communities in Haiti. The scholarship program is open to high schoolers who demonstrate financial need and a commitment to serving their community. Financial awards range from $100 - $1000. Funds may be used for enrollment fees, tuition and/or school supplies

Teaching / Tutoring

We partner with local High School students from various grades and communities in Haiti to promote and enhance the literacy rate in their community. Students are placed in cohorts of 10, and teach community members to read and write.  Student Leaders are also encouraged to complete a community-based project during the Fiscal year. Yon Avni supports the leaders during the whole process and encourages each student to create a unique and exciting project in correlation with their dreams and aspirations. The goal being to use this opportunity to build capacity and sustainability in their community.

By engaging in their communities, the students develop a new set of skills such as leadership,  communication, dependability, time management and decision making. As a result, the students acquire all the necessary skills to succeed, hence creating a better future for themselves.

Selection

Prospective Students leaders  are nominated by school directors, principals or teachers in Milot. Nominees are invited to complete a competitive application to be reviewed by the Student Leaders recruitment committee.  Selectees are then invited to complete the onboarding process and undergo two weeks of adult literacy training while also continuing to participate in workforce development workshops and adult literacy training biweekly.
